Minutes and Agenda, 1945, 1947-1961.

This series contains Department and Executive Committee minutes and agenda (1947-1961) of the Department for the Christian Approach to the Jewish People. Executive Committee minutes are from a Septmeber 10, 1947 meeting. Minutes dating from 1947-1948 are contained in one bound volume. Unbound minutes (1949-1961) are from the files of R.H. Gerberding, secretary of the Division of American Missions' Committee and executive secretary of the United Lutheran Church in America's Board of American Missions and the Division Executive Secretary's Office. Although Department minutes dating from 1949-1962 are found in Division of American Missions minutes and agenda (NLC 7/1), the Division Executive Secretary's Office and Gerberding's collection contains agenda and appendices which were not included in the Division minutes set. Department minutes include summaries of activities; resolutions; discussion of finances; reports of the Department secretary, committees, and staff; publications; and discussion of project planning. The unbound set also contains minutes of a meeting (March 21, 1945) of the Joint Jewish Commission Committee, composed of representatives of the Division, United Lutheran Church in America, and the Zion Society for Israel, regarding the establishment of a "Department for Israel" in the Division.
